Please respect the beauty and the fragile environment of our beaches and ponds.
Many dune and pond-banks are in the process of being reclaimed and replanted
at all times. Please do not run up or down the dunes or cross any fence barriers
protecting the dunes. Clean up from your dog and don’t leave litter;
respect private property, and use only designated entry points.

Fresh Water Ponds

Wellfleet has a variety of ocean beaches, bay beaches, and fresh water ponds.  Parking permits or a daily fee is required for town-owned and operated beaches from the third weekend in June through Labor Day.  Stickers can be purchased at the Beach Sticker booth at the Town Pier. Wellfleet staffs four ocean beaches equipped with restrooms and lifeguards including Newcomb Hollow, Cahoon Hollow, White Crest and Maguire's Landing.  A fifth ocean beach, Marconi, is owned and maintained by the Cape Cod National Seashore. Parking is available on a daily fee basis at Cahoon Hollow, Whitecrest , and Marconi. The views from the ocean beaches are dramatic with 100 foot sand cliffs.

Surfing is permitted at town beaches. Be courteous.  Hang gliders can be seen at White Crest Beach during early spring and towards winter when east winds can be more prevalent.

Wellfleet has beautiful sunrises on the ocean side and beautiful sunsets on the bay. Wellfleet is one of the only towns in the Northeast where you can get the perception of the sun setting over the water.

The bay beaches have warmer water and much less surf. These beaches include Indian Neck, Burton Baker Beach, Mayo Beach, Powers Landing and Duck Harbor. Windsurfing is allowed at Burton Baker Beach, and at Indian Neck.

Wellfleet’s fresh water Kettle Ponds are great for families with young children. Public beaches are maintained with restrooms and lifeguards at Gull Pond, Great Pond and Long Pond. See if you can find the ponds that are only available by foot.

The Beach Sticker Booth on the Town Pier is open Sunday to Thursday 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM. Fridays and Saturdays from 8:30 AM to 6:00 PM. If you are renting a cottage, you will need a proof of rental from your landlord, and car registration. A daily fee is charged for parking at White Crest and Cahoon Hollow beaches. Parking is free at Mayo Beach and on the Town Pier.

If you park behind the Beachcomber at Cahoon Hollow beach, you can use your parking fee towards food at the Beachcomber.

A permit for beach fires is required and available from the Beach Sticker Office located at Wellfleet Harbor Town Pier.

You can get a Shellfish License at the at the Beach Sticker Office as well. Recreational Shellfishing is Sundays and Wednesdays only at Indian Neck area for licensed 2007 holders but is still limited to 10 quarts per week.
