Wellfleet Bay’s 1,100 acres of salt marsh, sandy beach, pine woodland, freshwater pond, and rare heathland attract a wide array of wildlife, especially songbirds and shorebirds. Discover the true nature of Cape Cod as you amble along the five miles of trails that traverse these habitats.

The scenic trails are complemented by the Nature Center’s green architecture, our friendly volunteers, and a beautiful butterfly and hummingbird garden.
A variety of educational programs for children and adults, including walks, workshops, and cruises, are offered both on the sanctuary and at other pristine locations on Cape Cod. Enjoy a naturalist-led bird walk on our property or listen to an evening lecture. Participate in hands-on activities aboard our Cape Cod Bay Marine Life Cruise for families. Observe seals, shorebirds and other wildlife on guided tours of Monomoy National Wildlife Refuge and the Cape Cod National Seashore. This sanctuary has the following universally accessible facilities: Nature Center, Trails, All Persons Trail to Goose Pond, Seasonal Classroom, Gardens, Campground.

Enjoy learning in the beautiful coastal setting of Cape Cod. Mass Audubon's Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary offers a wide variety of field courses for adults which focus on the unique coastal environment and wildlife of Cape Cod. Field Schools emphasize active outdoor "in-the-field" experiences and are taught by professional naturalists and scientists.

Coastal Ecology by Kayak, Shorebirds of Cape Cod, Salt Marsh & Shoreline Botany, and the Art of Nature Sketching are just a few examples of our more popular topics. Courses are either 2 or 4 days in length providing just enough time to immerse you in the subject.

The beaches, woods, dunes, and wetlands of the 43,000-acre Cape Cod National Seashore, the 1,000-acre Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary, the wilderness islands of Monomoy National Wildlife Refuge, and the waters of Cape Cod will provide the setting for the courses. Previous experience is not required-just an inquisitive mind and an eagerness to learn!

For more detailed course descriptions and itineraries please contact Wellfleet Bay's Education Coordinator at 508-349-2615 or wellfleet@massaudubon.org
